Note:

It was an early start today but well worth it when we were all greeted with a spectacular sunrise over the harbour. Once we anchored it didn't take long for or first shark to show, conditions were superb for photography with 15m visibility. Shark one was identified as female along with number three, other individuals were identified as males. We were all very lucky to encounter the infamous Slashfin, who put on quite a show. Many thanks, regards.

Our second shark we named Scarface because of the large bite mark around its right eye. The rough sea brought in a Grey headed Albatross, rare around this area. Many thanks to all, regards.

Date: 13-06-07

Location: Northern Reef

Sea condition: calm [flat]

Water Temperature: 16 C

Wind direction: E

Current direction: W

Wind speed: 6-8kts

Water visibility: 15 m

Cloud coverage: 0%

Water depth: 14.5 m

No of sharks sighted: 5

Respective individual lengths: 2.5m, 2.6m, 2.5m, 2.2m, 2.0m
Note: Calm seas and great visibility made for fabulous shark sightings. Despite a long wait for the sharks, 5 were seen in total, giving everyone excellent sightings. The first, second, third, and fourth sharks were all male. Additionally, the fifth shark sighted was a female. The natural inquisitive behavior of these creatures was shown by many of them approaching the decoy. Fabulous sightings of common dolphins and southern right and humpback whales were also seen on the horizon. Many thanks to all, regards.

Current direction: N

Wind speed: 6-8kts

Water visibility: 12 m

Cloud coverage: 25%

Respective individual lengths: <2.0m, 2.5m, 2.2m, 3.0m

The first shark appeared rather quickly, showing cautious behaviour. The second shark, was identified as a female, and had a distinct white pigment on the base of her caudal fin. The third shark, a male, had very pale colouring, and made several horizontal approaches toward the bait and decoy. Two sharks encountered each other around the cage, the smaller of the two giving way to the other individual. Many thanks to all, regards.
