Great White Shark cage diving trip 20 October 2007

Date:
20/10/2007
Sea condition: Slightly choppy
Water Temperature: 14.6 C
Wind direction: E to SE @ 11 : 55 am
Current direction: W to NW
Bait Type: Patagonian Toothfish, Tuna mince.
Respective individual lengths: 2.0m, 2.0m,
2.5-3.0m, 2.5-3.m, 3.0m, 2.5m, 3.0m
Today's trip was absolutely fantastic! Our
first shark arrived very soon after dropping
anchor. The visibility was very good and
even managed to see a Southern Right
Whale that came quite close to the boat. It
was great to see Nemo again and it seemed
that his injury was healing
progressively. We were very fortunate also
to see two male sharks. We were also very
lucky not to have to wait too long between
arrival and departure of each of our
different sharks. Excellent day overall.
Many thanks, regards, Alison

2.5m, 2.5m..
After a
long wait at the start and a change in location we were very
fortunate to see 8 Great white sharks in total. The first
shark to arrive and stay with us was a resight with bite
marks to the head. All sharks were females and shark 8 ended
up swimming about with one of my notes wrapped around its
pectoral fin! Luckily paper is bio degradable! Very windy
conditions meant the Southern right whales were very active
in the bay and we saw two today from the boat. Shark
behaviour around the bait was typical of this time of year
however sharks remained very passive to the bait. Perhaps
due to the drop in water temperature. Hope you all enjoyed,
Many thanks to all, regards, Alison.

Spectacular morning trip with very active sharks around the
boat continuously! Very lucky to see two males shark 2 and
6, and the rest were identified as females. All divers were
able to view the sharks nicely from the cage. No sharks were
resights indicating a possible movement of new
individuals into the area.
Many

Great
White Shark cage diving trip 14 October 2007

Date: 14-10-07

Location: Joubertsdam
Sea condition: Swell and rough
Water Temperature: 16.3 C
Wind direction: NW
Current direction: SE
Wind speed: 20kts
Water visibility: 3.0m
Cloud coverage: 30%
Water depth: 10.1m
Bait Type: Patagonian Toothfish,
Tuna mince.
Arrival time: 09;30am
No of sharks sighted: 3
Respective individual lengths:
2.0m, 2.5m, 3.5m
Note: Stunning sharks, with the
day beginning with a shark
breeching on the bait line. A
huge 3.5m female rushed the
decoy and the bait a few times
making for some excellent
viewings from the top deck
especially. Well done to those
clients on board lucky enough to
catch the event! After rescuing
jorgi the decoy from the big
female two other sharks
identified as females circled
the boat a few times. There was
a bit of a wait between sharks
but patience paid off.
unfortunately the visibility
dropped and the wind picked up
meaning we had to cancel the
afternoon trip. However, still a
very sucessful day in all,
thanks to all, Alison.

Great
White Shark cage diving trip 13 October 2007

Date:
13-10-07 2nd Trip
Location: Joubertsdam
Sea condition: flat calm
Water Temperature: 17.3 C
Wind direction: W
Current direction: E
Wind speed: 5kts
Water visibility: 6m
Cloud coverage: 0%
Water depth: 11.5m
Bait Type: Patagonian Toothfish,
Tuna mince.
Arrival time: 13:15am
No of sharks sighted: 2
Respective individual lengths: 2.0m,
2.0m
Note: On returning to our cage in
the afternoon we were joined almost
immediately by a juvenile Great
white shark. The shark was presumed
to be a female although a little too
small to tell. Another shark of a
similar size range joined us and
both sharks continuously circled the
cage in perfect calm visibility
conditions! All divers managed to
dive twice with the small sharks and
an excellent afternoon trip was had
by all! Many regards, Alison.

No of sharks sighted: 3
Respective individual lengths: 2.5m,

Note: An extremely successful day
all round! We were incredibly
fortunate to see three sharks one of
which was a heavily scarred male
shark. This shark circled the boat
and cage actively for over an hour
allowing some excellent viewing in
great visibility. The scars to his
flank were bite marks most likely
from females not wanting to mate
with him, therefore he got the nick
name Casanova! Both other sharks
were females. Many thanks to all
hope you enjoyed the trip, regards,
Alison.
