Great White Shark cage diving trip 20 November 2007

Location:
Joubert's Dam (afternoon trip)
Sea condition:
Flat

This was an
interesting trip. After this morning's
shark activities we expected the sharks
to be acting in the same way, however,
we had to wait around one hour for our
first shark to arrive. Visibility
dropped by around a metre to 2-3 metres
but we still managed to get good passes
for our clients in the cage. Our first
shark was a female and was by far the
biggest of the trip at around three
metres long. Regards, Alison.

What great
visibility for this time of the year.
Divers had the luxury of 8 metres down
and around 4 metres across which
made fantastic viewing from the cage.
Not only was the visibility great but
the water temperature was as high as ive
seen it all year coming in at around
18.2 'C. We managed to have four
different sharks come to the boat with
shark number four being a male and 3.5
metres in length being the largest.
Thanks to everyone on the boat. Regards,
Alison.

We were extremely
lucky today as not only was the sun shining
but we had a flat sea, the visibilty
was good (around 4 metres) and we only had
to wait 20 mintues for our first shark to
arrive. In total, we had four different
sharks approach us with shark four circuling
the boat for about 30 minutes giving great
viewing for the clients in and out of the
cage. Thanks for a fantastic trip everyone.
Regards, Alison.

It was great to to see
the sea flat, however, it took an hour for
the first shark to arrive. Visibilty was
around 5 metres which is fantastic for this
time of year and this made great viewing for
the cage divers. The great whites seemed to
be a bit reluctant to approach the cage at
first however towards the end of our trip
we viewed the two biggest sharks stretching
2.5 metres and 3.0 metres respectively. This
created a grand finale! Thanks to everyone
on the trip. Regards Alison.

Although the winds
picked up in the afternoon, clients on the
boat only had to wait 15 minutes for the
first shark which was brilliant. Again
visibilty was quite poor, however, clients
viewing from the boat got to see a couple of
great breaches. Our second shark was a male
and by far the biggest. He was around 3 -
3.5 meters and had a visible scar on the tip
of his tail. Thanks to everyone on the trip
and i hope everyone enjoys the rest of their
travels. Regards Alison.

Great trip this
morning seeing 5 different sharks overall.
It was great to see the first female shark
just 10 minutes after arrival. Although the
visibility was only two metres it didn't
stop everyone on board having a great time
in and out of the cage. Our 4th shark, which
was two metres in length and was a light
grey colour clearly had a black scar on the
front of her nose and on the side of the
dorsal fin which could be easily spotted
when she was at the bait line. Thanks to
everyone, Alison.

Finally we get a
flatter sea day! Incredible to see so many
sharks around the boat behaving so actively
this time of year. Despite the drop in
visibility we experienced five sharks, the
first two measuring over the three meter
mark. The third shark was actually a
re-sight with a distinctive bite mark out of
her head. Spectacular breaching and
approaches to the decoy by shark four.
Finally thank you so much to Nick and
Ann-marie and for returning to see the
sharks with us after a rough sea day
previously... from your tear filler goodbye
I'm sure we didn't disappoint you, pleasure
to have you on board... Many Thanks and
regards Alison.

Note: We returned to
our cage in the afternoon to find the wind
had picked up strongly. Despite this we
still were fortunate to see sharks almost
immediately at our boat. In total 4 sharks
were sighted, again all females and again
the same re-sight female from the morning.
Some fantastic breeches were attempted on
the bait line and some beautiful vertical
approaches making superb cage viewing. well
done to all entering the cage. As the wind
changed more westerly visibility declined
further in the cage but still al divers saw
some great passes! Many thanks to all.

Note: Fabulous
trip and excellent to see sharks again
so quickly for this time of year!
Visibility started off relatively good
with some great shark passes by the
cage. We encountered three large sharks
in total, all females. Shark three we
recognised from previous trips, as she
has a distinctive patch on the leading
edge of the dorsal fin. She also has a
very active nature regularly ambushing
the bait line from below and passing the
cage closely. Many thanks to the team
from the New York Amsterdam times, hope
everybody enjoyed the trip!
