Great White Shark cage diving trip 11November 2007

Date: 11/11/07
Location: Joubertsdam (Afternoon trip)
Sea condition: swell and chop
Water Temperature: 16.8C
Wind direction: SE
Current direction: E
Wind speed: 15kts
Water visibility: 2-3m
Cloud coverage: 30%
Water depth: 13.8m
Bait Type:Skip jack Tuna
Arrival time: 1.15pm
No of sharks sighted: 3
Respective individual lengths: 2.5m,
2.5m, 3.5m.
Note: Great trip! We managed to see our
first female shark just 15 minutes after
arrival which was fantastic. Although
the sea was very choppy, we still
managed to get some great
shark passes. Well done to those who
braved the sea conditions and got into
the cage. By far, the third female shark
we saw was the biggest coming in at
around 3.5 meters long. Thank you to all
who came along. Regards.

Great White Shark cage diving trip 11November 2007

Arrival time:
1.30pm
No of sharks
sighted: 5
Respective
individual lengths: 2.5m, 2.5m, 2.5-3m,
2m, 3m.
Note: Excellent to
see our first shark so quickly and have
continues sharks the whole trip! For
this time of year we were very lucky.
Despite the sea conditions being choppy
most divers made the cage and enjoyed
some great shark passes, all sharks
being relatively large females.
Visibility dropped as the wind picked
up but started off at a nice clear four
meters. One shark in particular stayed
around for a while with a distinctive
bite mark out of her head. Well done in
particular to the birthday girl Boudray
from George (even though i think thats
the wrong spelling!) who had her 70th
birthday in the shark cage! Very
successful trip in all, many regards,
Alison.

Note: What an
incredible trip, although it was a bit
choppy the sun came out and made it a bright
afternoon. Interestingly the second shark
that arived at the boat had a distinctive
bite mark out of her head. All sharks were
females and very active. Well done to Kevin
for getting into the cage and braving the
choppy conditions with his dad. Many thanks
to all. Regards.

Note:Fantastic to
see so many sharks this time of year and
so quickly! The majority of sharks
approaching the boat were also
relatively large only one being below
the 2.5m mark. Visibility cleared up
nicely to give some excellent cage
viewing and therefore all divers enjoyed
the cage. The 4th and 5th sharks had
similar scar markings on the leading
edge of their dorsal fins and the final
shark was identified as a male. Thanks
to all and hope you enjoyed, Alison.

circled the boat
numerous times

shark also breeched
the surface in an
attempt to get the
bait. Despite the
hectic seas
sucessful cage dives
in general. Many

Great White Shark cage diving trip 3 November 2007

Date: 3/11/07
Location: Joubertsdam
Sea condition: swell
Water
Temperature: 14.9C
Wind direction: NW
Current direction: SE
Wind speed: 20kts
Water visibility:
<1.0m
Cloud coverage: 100%
Water depth: 10m
Bait Type:Skip jack
Tuna
Arrival time: 09:00am
No of sharks sighted:
5
Respective individual
lengths: 2.0m, 2.0m, 2.5m, 2.0m, 3.0m, 3.2m.
Note: Unfortunately
today was a battle against the weather, and
visibility! As a result once we
were anchored photography of the sharks was
almost impossible and cage diving turned out
to be a write off! however we did not have
to wait long for our first shark to arrive
even though it only stayed briefly. We
actually saw 5 sharks in total, majority
female although difficult to see clearly
through the dirty water. Typical North West
wind weather, thanks to all on board for
remaining so positive and too barn house
brewery team for keeping up the high
spirits...will see you guys back in July!
Many thanks, Alison.

Great White Shark cage diving trip 2 November 2007

Date: 02/11/2007

Location:
Joubertsdam
Sea condition:
flat
Water
Temperature: 14.1C
Wind direction: NW
Current direction:
SE
Wind speed: 5kts
Water visibility:
<1.0m
Cloud coverage: 0%
Water depth: 10m
Bait Type: Skip
jack Tuna
Arrival time:
10.20am
No of sharks
sighted: 3
Respective
individual lengths: 3.0m, 3.0m, 3.0m
Note: What a
fantastic day! After having such long
waits for our sharks recently we were so
lucky to get a shark almost immediately!
Two sharks were female and the third a
male. The first shark stayed around the
longest, very distinctive with a swirly tattoo
like mark of the right of the
dorsal. The visibility was extremely
bad due to a plankton bloom in the area
and we predicted that the cage views
would be terrible whilst anchoring.
However we were very fortunate to get
relaxed confident sharks coming
extremely close so all divers got
a good view! Thanks to Liza (the person
in charge of this website!) and her
friends for joining us today on the
trip..great entertainment for all on
board watching you :) many thanks to
all, regards, Alison.

long wait and some seriously misty
conditions we were incredibly
fortunate to see 7 Great white
sharks. Most sharks were recognised
as females except shark 6, with some
interesting scar markings on shark 6
and 7's snout areas. Visibility
allowed some great cage views and
all divers saw plentiful passes!
Many thanks to all regards, Alison.
