Shark cage diving trip 07/03/07

Hi there everyone, hope you all enjoyed your cage
diving excursion with marine dynamics. Below is a list of water conditions and
stats about the sharks sighted on your trip, along with the best photos of the
day.
Date: 07-03-07
Location: Joubertsdam
Sea condition: Choppy, swell
Water Temperature: 18 C
Wind direction: SE/S
Wind speed: 15kts
Water visability: 4.0-5.0m
Cloud coverage: 100%
Water depth: 14.2m
Bait Type: Yellowfin and skip jack tuna, sardine oil
Arrival time: 10:05am
No of sharks sighted: 8
Respective individual lengths: 1.5m, 2.5m, 2.5m, 3.2m, 3.0m, 3.2m, 4.0m, 4.1m -
(1.5m*)
Note* Mallethead shark (similar to the hammerhead shark) was the first arrival
at the boat, starting a steady stream of progressively bigger white sharks!
Individuals 5 and 7 were identified as males shark 3 being a resight from
previous trip in the week with a streamer tag attatched to the dorsal. Very
sucessful day all divers got good sigthings from the cage, however surface
photos were difficult due to the sharks not lifting their heads out but still
brilliant day..hope you all enjoyed.

Sea condition: Flat calm
Water Temperature: 16 C
Wind direction: SW Turned S
Wind speed: 5kts
Water visibility: 2.0m
Cloud coverage: 15%
Water depth: 14.6m
Bait Type: Yellow-fin and skip jack tuna, sardine oil
Arrival time:09:15am
No of sharks sighted: 5
Respective individual lengths: 2.0m, 2.0m, 1.5m, 2.0m, 2.0m
Note: Shark one had a scar above the left eye.. possibly due to seal predation,
and was identified as male. Sharks 2 and 4 also were identified as male. All
sharks juveniles, unfortunately plankton limited our visibility from the cage
but a few divers got very close up viewings after a wait! Also nice to visit the
seals at geyser rock and show you all a common octopus! Many thanks to all and

Bait type: Skip jack Tuna, sardine oil
Arrival time: 09:00 am
Number of sharks sighted: 6
Respective individual lengths: 2.5m, 2.5m, 4.0m, 2.0m, 1.5m, 2.0m
Note* Interesting eye patch scar on the left side of shark number one and a
dorsal fin pigmentation patch on shark 6, indicating it was a re-sight from
previous trip. In all very successful day, most divers in the cage getting some
good sightings despite the visibility being limited. Those people not effected
by sea sickness were rewarded! Individual number 3 was a very large shark, also
a cape fur seal paid our bait a visit! Hope everyone enjoyed trip, many thanks

Note* 98% Seasick people - The sea did a wild dance!
Still saw 5 Sharks. Rough ride it was. Extreme !

Arrival time: 09:45 am

Note* Shark one was tagged with a streamer tag and a re-sight from the previous
day. The shark was also identified as a male. The largest shark number 5 changed
its attack strategy on our bait and rushed up from below surprising us all!
Shark 4 however was the most elusive individual identified as a female she
stayed around the boat for hours making various passes by the cage allowing some
awesome viewings. Very relaxed and rewarding days viewing, many thanks to all,

Arrival time: 10:10 am
Number of sharks sighted: 12
Respective individual lengths: 2.5m, 2.0m, 2.0m, 2.5m, 3.5m, 3.0m, 3.0m, 2.0m,
2.0m, 2.5m, 2.5m, 2.0m
Note* Shark 1 was identified as a female, re-sight four years consecutively,
when first seen she had a huge chunk of flesh missing from her jaw, scar is
pretty ugly as can be seen on photo attached! Also note the parasitic algae
burrowing into the sharks snout (central). Shark 3 was identified as female,
sharks 4,5 and 10 as males. Excellent visibility allowing us to tell the genders
of sharks and get some close up viewings. Many thanks to all and hope you all
